polaroids: day one

Aww gosh have you noticed what a rubbish blogger I have been over the past few days?  Shocking, eh?  I can’t even put my finger on why and how exactly I am so busy… I think it might just be a feeling of general pressure that has forced me to put the blog on the back burner.

BUT I have made an exciting and fun – but completely unoriginal – decision: because of the fantastic news about Polaroid (I’m going to go on and use up the last three pieces of film in mine… I’ve had this unrational unwillingness to use them up JUST in case) I thought I’d post some of my favourites (that is, one polaroid, or, if I can’t choose, one polaroid artist) just to celebrate it.

Now that was a long sentence.  Just shows how excited I am about this.

So for the next week I’ll do one a day, wednesday to wednesday.  It will stop me from biting my nails over no inspiration.  I will have TARGETS and GOALS.  It will be GREAT.

Here’s the first:

Now I’ve got a question for you guys.  You’re bound to know.  What exactly is a Holga camera?  How is it different from a polaroid?  Because to me the results look not dissimilar.  Both are lovely, and soft, and interesting.

a holga camera is a lomography camera, its like a plastic camera which uses 120 film. You can create images that ‘overlap’ called multiple exposure, and the soft feel to the pictures is created because of the lens. I have a diana too, which i got for christmas but havent used yet, thats really similar. You set the aperture and focus your self and can leave the shutter open for longer to create different effects. theres a camera called an action sampler too, which has 4 lens and creates 4 images on one shot. go to http://www.lomography.com. think theres more varieties of cameras you can get – like a fisheye

Wow! Thanks, that’s really helpful. DO get a Polaroid, they’re great fun… And you can pick them up pretty cheap in charity shops sometimes… Mine was rooted out of my grandparents attic.
I saw you’d answered the questions! I meant to comment but my lazy blogging has extended to lazy commenting too :-) They were fantastic answers! A lot of your favourite books were the same as mine actually, especially the childhood ones. I had a copy of the little princess which had these great pencil illustrations, one where she was wearing the most beautiful boots… I want those boots so much.
And I was SO impressed with the limerick! Well done!!

I just looked up holga cameras. I’ve heard the term, but I did not realize that they were so similar to polaroids.
I just bought some expensive polaroid film from Ebay, the day before I found out about the new company manufacturing the film. Now I have to go buy a polaroid camera :)

Great pictures of photos. I might have to get one too. They bring me way back and have a certain charm.
